# Change a YubiKey PIN

##### Create/Change a YubiKey PIN in Windows

<p class="callout info">The steps below are for Windows 11, but the process should be identical on Windows 10.</p>

1. If it's not already plugged in, plug your YubiKey into a USB port on your computer
2. [Open the **Windows Settings** app](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/find-settings-in-windows-6ffbef87-e633-45ac-a1e8-b7a834578ac6) by clicking the **Start** button in the bottom-left corner and then click the gear icon or search for "Settings" in the search field. If you cannot find the **Settings** app, [check this page for assistance locating it](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/find-settings-in-windows-6ffbef87-e633-45ac-a1e8-b7a834578ac6).
3. In the left menu, click **Accounts**.
4. Under the **Account settings** section, click **Sign-in options**.
5. Under the **Ways to sign in section**, click **Security key** then click the **Manage** button.
6. You will be prompted to **Touch your security key**, touch the gold button on the YubiKey.
7. Under the **Security Key PIN** section, click the **Change** button.
8. <span style="background-color: rgb(241, 196, 15);">You'll need to know the current PIN to change it</span>. If you **do not** know the current PIN, please [contact Horizon Information Systems](https://support.horizon-is.com/scripts/texcel/customerwise/clogin.dll). If you **do** know the current PIN: 
    1. Enter the current PIN in the first field labelled **Security key PIN**.
    2. Enter and confirm a new PIN in the next two fields. **The PIN must be between 4-63 alphanumeric characters (numbers and/or letters)**.
    3. Click the **OK** button.
9. If the change is successful, you'll be returned to the **Windows Hello setup** window with the **Security Key PIN** and **Reset Security Key** options. You can click the **Close** button now that you've set a new PIN on your YubiKey.
